This podcast grew out of a realization that if representation in the business world and creative industries is going to happen, desi folk have to be able to take risks. And that starts at home.
Brown parents are incredibly well-meaning but often due to personal hardship or failures, they tend to want their children to play it "safe," you know, become a doctor, lawyer, or engineer and pursue their passions on the "side."
My own immigrant father dreamed of me becoming a lawyer, and I got into law school only to drop out and realize I couldn't hand over another four years of my life to someone else's dreams. He'll still remind me that I've already written my LSATs and could apply again. He doesn't ask me what I do now, just knows that I work in "IT," but he's slowly coming around.
I know I'm not alone in my experience and my hope is by shedding light on stories of others who've been there, done that, this podcast could inspire those standing on the precipice to take the leap.
I'm a product designer that consults with startups and enterprise software companies to pay for my fiction writing habit. My debut novel is coming out in 2022 courtesy of Penguin Teen.
